Business: Nirmaan Enterprises
Nirmaan Enterprises sell bags made using scrap cloth. Students were
involved in a brainstorming session which focussed on how the enterprise
can be improved. From this session Nirmaan Enterprises decided that
their business would diversify to sell:
- Cushion covers
- Table clothes
- Napkins.
- Cross stitching and block printing have been adopted make products more appealing.
The enterprise is eco-friendly, using reusable materials to
create long lasting products which can be reused time and again. This
strategy is highly topical in Delhi as the use of plastic bags has been
banned. In addition to students gaining valuable entrepreneurial
experience and business skills, the enterprise provides women with
employment opportunities, acting as mentors to pupils.
Nirmaan Enterprises intend to spend their profits will be reinvested in to the business to purchase new accessories and fabrics to diversify further. Students are aiming to continue spreading awareness of the use of cloth bags rather than disposable plastic bags.

More Feedback
I enjoyed the selling our
products the most in the school enterprise challenge.I think selling the products was a great learning experience . Right from
displaying our products and convincing people to buy them, we learnt a lot during the whole process.
The best
part was when we convinced the people to buy the bags. As far as I am
concerned I couldn't have imagined myself convincing people by telling them the
stuff of the bags, their uses and their advantages over other bags available in
market. But,I did..and that is a major achievement for me.
This entire process taught us many useful tips of
marketing which I am sure would help us to be good entrepreneurs.
I found the
selection of ladies, who would work for us, the most difficult task. At
first we
had no clue from where to start but then we managed to contact
some ladies from EWS . We held workshops for them to explain them our
work and their role in it. Next some raw
materials were given to them so that we come to know the standard of
bags they
can provide us .
After this
session many ladies were finalised for working with us.
However we had
a setback as many ladies who had agreed to work with us didn't turn up. This was a difficult phase for
us but we coped with it and started our work with a group of 4-5 ladies.
This was
certainly a challenging phase to convince people to join us when our
execution plans were just on paper . But there is always a first time and
now after one year we have proved that where there is a will, there is a way.

Feedback of students and parents
Being
involved in the school enterprise challenge,I got a personal inner
satisfaction through my contribution towards the upliftment of women. I
felt I was doing my bit by selling the bags stitched by the women and
motivating the students as well as their parents to purchase these bags
for a social cause.

The most challenging part I found was to interact with the students as
well as their parents whom I did not knew and convincing them and
motivating them with the best of my capabilities to buy these bags to
help the poor women, who strived hard to earn their livelihood for them
and their families.

I dream to become an entrepreneur but I never
thought that I would be able to get the experience to become one at
such a young age. It's a dream come true.I gained a lot. The most enjoyable
moment for me and my colleagues was when our buyers appreciated us
for our work and also took interest in our project and gave us new ideas
to improve our work.
The most
challenging work was to convince and satisfy our buyers as we were new in business and
did not have any experience.
